Fun in Fundamentals ways to learn 2D Shape names and properties.
In the first years of maths it is important to recognise the names and properties of the common 2D shapes: circle, square, heart, oval, triangle, pentagon, rectangle, hexagon, octagon, decagon.
Learning them by helping to spot them and name them when you’re out is a great way to familiarise early learners with shapes. Drawing them in sand in the sandpit and at the beach is another fun way to recognise simple 2D shapes. Remember to call them out when you see the shape in a shop window, road sign or advertising poster.
Draw your shapes in the sand.
